NQuire, in association with leading German equipment manufacturer Vierling Communications GmbH, has developed the Mobile Number Porting software application for Vierling’s range of GSM Gateways: ECOTEL ISDN2-1xx, ECOTEL VoIP, the brand new SIP-ISDN-GSM-FCT, ECOTEL VTM pro, the new multichannel - Linux Platform and the ECOTEL VTMflex.

This industry unique application and Vierlings state of the art technology allows the Veirling GSM Gateways to gain direct and real-time access onto NQuire's network look-up servers and obtain accurate and real-time number routing information from the worlds mobile network operators.

The mobile porting application within the Veirling GSM Gateways will enable the equipment to accurately identify and correctly route mobile telephone calls without having to rely on traditional least cost routing methods of using the prefix of the mobile number. This allows for savings to be made on a call by call basis through greater use of lower tariffed "On-Net" SIM's. This capability is particularly important in areas where mobile number porting already is, or is becoming an issue.

The application works by "holding" the incoming call and sending a number inquiry request to the NQuire servers via the connected internet, which in-turn interrogate the relevant mobile networks and obtains the actual routing information associated with the number. Once the number look-up has been performed, the information is passed back to the GSM Gateway to allow it to route the call to actual terminating network and not to the mobile network to which the number prefix is allocated. Thus by the use of lower tariffed "On-Net" SIM's within the GSM Gateway, the most cost efficient route to the terminating mobile network can be chosen. The total time taken to complete the look-up cycle covers a range of between 20Ms (Milliseconds) and 400Ms and once implemented within the GSM Gateway the process is transparent to the end-user.
